The Friday Five - Breaking
All things we're breaking this week - habits, ice, free, patterns, and hearts.
On Breaking Habits - My current read, “Culpability,” presents the all too realistic aftermath of texting while driving, with an AI/self driving car angle. While my car doesn’t drive itself (weird that’s even an option), my hands guide themselves to my phone way too often. Just being honest. The result of this gut punch of a book? A serious self check on my phone use in the car. Join me?
On Breaking the Ice - My friend brilliantly broke the ice at a recent meeting by asking everyone to reach into their purse, pull out one item, and share its story with their group. Among the items shared - a work phone which lead us to celebrate a new job and a stack of post-it notes and the insightful quote written on top (that of course I can’t remember). My item? An empty ziploc (gasp!) bag that stored apples at one point supporting my belief in “An apple a day…” and proving my purse doubles as a lunch box/trash can. The conversation flowed easily from this exercise. Pack this ice breaker away for your next meeting. (Will we ever be able to say ice again without cringing?)
On Breaking Free - My obsession with the Pitt started on a cross country United flight (we don’t have HBO Max at home). Some would question that selection given the gruesomeness of some scenes but I promise I was so quick to cover that screen in dirty times. Yowzers. Nurse Dana can feel like a harsh force in the ER but not the case here. You can feel her sincerity and breathe in the power of her message in this intimate moment with Stephen Colbert.
On Breaking Patterns - Cropped, frayed or barrel - those have categorized all of my jeans of late. I (and my hubs) was thrilled when I found these straight leg jeans. With my lack of shopping love, I welcome recommendations from others. Maybe this rec helps you? Whatever you do, do not wait for additional recs. Those could take years.
On Breaking Hearts - The situation in Minnesota has our hearts breaking collectively. Americans are grieving America. I think back to this piece on grief and feel so much of it applies to the state of American affairs. While I think on a bigger role in this process, I’ll start by being a first time caller (no judgement, please) and donate to the Sharon McMahon vetted Immigrant Law Center of Minnesota. Maybe you will, too.
Sending everyone an extra dose of love this week. We all need it.

p.s. Locals - looking for quality family time or just a distraction? Take your crew to Buffalo Billiards in Petaluma. Entertainment abounds with darts, ping pong, pool, a mini arcade and food for all ages.

Another vote for Buffalo Billiards! Love that it's all ages.
Thank you! Donating now (Sharron vetted links are greatly appreciated!)
