The Friday Five
A simple five including budget stretching recommendations and budget friendly solutions.
Read. Learn. Adapt. I’ve heard the slippery green bags we buy for composting actually aren’t compostable - but I just didn’t want that to be true. So when I read it in our local Trash Digest (aka recycling center mailer), I decided it was time for our household to adapt. Enter brown paper lunch bags previously purchased for popcorn and movie day at school. A quick and easy solution that actually will get composted. #earthdaywin

Frame It. Too many v-necks back in the day have left my personal v-neck less than lovely. Add the hanging/clinging characteristics of a t-shirt and I feel less than lovely. Good news! Frame t-shirts save the day. A splurge for sure but I can confidently say I’ve loved my black one for 3.5 years and just added navy to my collection. Tip: Wait for a 25% off coupon. To counterbalance the cost, my favorite v-necks are from Target.

Bloom Time. I stumbled across Gray Malin’s recent collection and did a double take (rarely happens with art for me). I love how it feels modern but the actual photo is of something (kind of) natural. Over the couch, maybe? Trip to see in person added to bucket list? Definitely.

Baking Soda Bliss. I’m six years into washing baseball pants and am officially over it. I know there are special bars and brushes you can buy to scrub and scrub…and scrub. I just can’t do it anymore. In a state of less care, I blasted the most recent victim - white pants dripping with red clay - with Shout, dropped them in to soak with a lot of baking soda and guess what? They came out bright white. No scrubbing involved. I literally shrieked. I’m also loving baking soda to keep my beloved white Staub products sparkly white. Have a favorite baking soda tip? Do share.
My New Gym. I’m still patiently waiting for more of you to join me on this journey. Maybe this is the convincing you need.
My life got in my writing way in so many ways over the last three weeks. A sick kid, a spring break with just one kid, a repeat offending sick kid, a friend’s 50th in Nashville (still recovering) and a stop off in Florida had my creative brain away from a computer for longer than anticipated. After all of that, I returned home with some emotional baggage (care home visits are hard) and physical baggage, too, in the form of sniffles and sneezes.
But I’m back with this week’s Friday Five and promise to be back on track with a tear jerking or belly laugh inducing snippet Tuesday. Time will tell which it will be.
You being here keeps me comin’ back.
xo,
Laura
Great having you back!!!
Welcome back! Love reading your writing and tips on a Friday morning!
