The Friday Five
This week's list covering frames, paint, inspiration, recipes and a new-to-me type of care home.
Frame This - Looking for a framing upgrade at a reasonable price? Look no further than Target, of course. I always love an offset image and oversized mat like the black one (also available in oak in store). $50 - quite the deal. These turned wood (so they call it) frames look much pricier than they are - just how we like it.
Winning Target large frames. Wise, Wise Words - Below is an excerpt from this powerful passage attributed to the late Pope Francis. I recommend taking a minute to read the whole thing. Quite powerful.
“The walls of hospitals have heard more honest prayers than churches…
They have witnessed far more sincere kisses than those in airports…
It is in hospitals that you see a homophobe being saved by a gay doctor.
A privileged doctor saving the life of a beggar…
In intensive care, you see a Jew taking care of a racist…
A police officer and a prisoner in the same room receiving the same care…
A wealthy patient waiting for a liver transplant, ready to receive the organ from a poor donor…It is in these moments, when the hospital touches the wounds of people, that different worlds intersect according to a divine design. And in this communion of destinies, we realize that alone, we are nothing.”
-Pope Francis
Food Obsession - A macro bowl? Never say never. Three bites in and I was asking for the dressing recipe. Two bites later, the server shared the ingredients with me. ChatGPT pulled together this recipe since winging it scares me. I’ll be making a batch this weekend. Join me?
Sea Ranch Macro Bowl - macerated kale, avocado, tamari pepitas (I use plain and still delicious), pickled onion, quinoa, & sweet potato
Dressing
2 tbsp olive oil,
1 tbsp lemon-infused olive oil (or use 3 tbsp total olive oil if you prefer)
1 tbsp Bragg's Liquid Aminos
1 tbsp fresh lemon juice (adjust to taste)
1/4 tsp onion powder
Optional: a pinch of black pepper or crushed red pepper for heatA Different Way - Courtney Martin, a brilliant and relatable writer and Alzheimer’s enduring daughter, let her heart out in this recent post. I was particularly drawn to the home she found her father - the Elder Ashram. In her words, “It is a totally normal building filled with the spirit of a completely abnormal and transcendent mission—to treat 75 people as they deserve to be treated in the very last scene in the very last act of their lives. It is both assisted living and memory care, all mixed together with no locked doors or differentiation.”
I’ve grown a wee bit tired of this Covid project mural I copied from Kelly Wearstler in my home office and am craving a home improvement project. Evidently, I’m feeling earthy and a grey green. Now,
will I actually do it?

I’ve been choosing to listen to music more than podcasts this week, eat more natural foods than leftover kids crap and drink so much water I might float out of here. Guess what? I’m feeling good. Hope you are, too. If not, might I suggest you try one of those?
Wishing you a happy and resetting weekend-
Laura
That bowl sounds (and looks, really!) so good. I might just make one this weekend!
