The Friday Five
Little, mid, and big moments from my week.
Small Aha. It’s taken me ten failed meals to realize…my roommates are eating more food. Little frustrates me more than when I make dinner, only to realize there isn’t nearly enough. One pound of ground beef for tacos or hamburgers used to leave leftovers for days. No longer the case. Increase the quantity and decrease (some of) the frustration that comes with dinnertime. Is there a lesson taking you a little bit longer to learn than you’d care to admit?
Bigger (failed) Aha. For a moment last night, I truly thought I was a genius for serving the taco meat and rice in the same glass containers I’d use for leftovers. One less dish to clean. Joke was on me when there were no leftovers. See above. But I’m still storing this tip for future me.

So mid. I was duped by my teen and the app store. Anyone else fallen for the “request for download” of Geometry Dash? When Elliott asked his friend what level he was on and his response was much higher than Elliott’s achievement, I got on his case, “Sounds like you have some work to do.” They both chuckled to themselves, ultimately revealing my naivete. Ugh. Parenting can be so, so mid.
Small task. Big win. I planted tulips. For the first time. They will bloom in the spring. I am beyond excited. Northern CA folk - you still have time!
Little Ol’ Me. My recent writing class prompt - Who are you and why? Here’s the you-have-10-minutes version of me:
I’m a simple girl from Kansas. Like the state, I stand in the middle on most topics - not too religious, not too smart, not too fancy. Fearing extremes, I try to maintain a sense of calm and balance through living within our means and not among too many things. I’m a self-titled moderate minimalist. I try not to be too political - although my husband would claim I’m a screaming liberal - and not too spiritual - although my substack would say I’m one with the woo. So, maybe parts of me are changing. Looking for more love in more places for more people. More. More. More. Sounds pretty minimalist to me. 😉
Like they say in Al-Anon, take what you like and leave the rest.
Wishing you all a hydrated, relaxing, social if-you-want-it-to-be weekend.
Laura

Happy weekend, Laura! I relate to the increased quantities of food! I remember when we went up to 2 lbs of ground beef for tacos not too long ago 😆
