The popular 2025 ins and outs have been making the social media rounds. Per usual, I’m a bit late to the trend and….who cares. Here’s what I’m telling the universe and myself I want more, so much more of, this year.
Education - Introducing your newest College of Marin Mariner who enrolled in a Freewriting Workshop. A bit nervous and a bit excited to get back into the classroom after 26 years - gulp, gag, how on earth. This will be my first writing class ever - sometimes it takes a minute to figure out your, ahem, third professional purpose but what truly feels like my one and only.
Needlepoint - This obsession hobby brought me much joy and “free” therapy last year. Always looking for my next masterpiece and always dreaming of more stitching friends to enjoy a sip and stitch/crochet/whatever-craft-you-choose session. Join me?
New Ingredients - Miso and tofu still evade my abilities. I will cook with them this year. I will cook with them this year. I will cook with them this year.
New Recipes - I’ve rediscovered the joy of cooking thanks to this practical genius and will rely on her to help me with above goal. However, my next-to-make is her chicken caesar schnitzel (so fun to say) which has raised over $35k for the LA fires. Brilliant work, Caro.

Biggie Smiles - I hope to pass the braces finish line in Q2 which sets a nice timeline for bigger smiles…and a new headshot.
Dry Shampoo - Three day old hair is evidently the best hair (says someone, not sure who). I’m trying hard to get with the times, and save some time, so was happy when no one could steal my white elephant gift. For real - you may laugh but using dry shampoo well is a real desire of mine. (Some goals just need to be easier than others.)
Humor - Seeing Sebastian Manascalco live provided the best belly laugh of 2024. We have Dax, Monica and Bill Gates booked for February and am craving another stand up act on my 2025 dance card. Any recommendations? (Ironically, I just found this comedy festival happening starting tomorrow in San Francisco. Now to pick one to go to.)
Creative Time - I’ve been obsessing over this magic, threadpainting (whaaaat???) and decorative cakes on the gram, making me crave an absurd amount of hands on creative time. I’ve requested a visit to see Cookies by Shannon create her magic in real time. Who else could I see?!

New Attitude - My beloved Peloton ass-kicker, Jess Simms, challenged us to rephrase our thinking on working out. This year, I will work out to feel good, to feel my best. I will not exercise out of peri-menopause anger. Ok, maybe a little bit but just reminding myself I feel my best when I workout has provided an already productive mental shift that I hope is here for the long haul.
In year’s past, I’ve picked words for the year and associated actions with them. I love that exercise but haven’t made the time to do it yet. Maybe in time. For now, I’ll use the above as guideposts, showing me the way through twenty twenty thrive, I mean, 2025.
What will be your guideposts?
Go Mariners!!!
